I cannot thank you enough for the beautiful home you created for me. Nicholas Sunderland Interiors were really superb in understanding our style preferences, and using Feng Shui so subtly   to create a beautiful, calm home. Having done my London homes, can you please call me to arrange to refurbish my country house and overseas properties, I want to be happy wherever I am...  Lady C. UK member 1463

Feng Shui in the Bedroom

The bedroom and its placement and style are most important in feng shui law.

According to the tenets of feng shui, the bedroom is the most important room because where and how you sleep exerts a major influence on your life. If your bedroom inspires tranquil feelings and leads you to peacefulness and proper rest, you will reap the benefits in a multitude of ways. Sex, wealth, health, and the happiness of a marriage can all be enhanced by a bedroom with good feng shui.

You spend fully one third of your life in the bedroom, whether sleeping, reading, making love, or just retreating into the kind of privacy that no other room can afford. When you lie in bed, you're doing more than resting—you are literally gaining the strength and the spiritual refreshment needed to go out into the world and carry on with the rest of your life.

You want the room to reflect your true spirit. The bedroom is—or should be—the most personal room in your home and the one in which you feel safest and most comfortable. Consider how vulnerable you are in here. You're asleep, unaware of anything taking place around you; you're generally undressed and unprotected by even so much as a pair of shoes.

According to Chinese thought, the soul leaves the body while we sleep to wander and restore itself in the astral plane, which most people in the Western world think of as dreaming. However you think of it, you know that while your conscious mind has the night off, the all-important subconscious is busy at work, recreating and reordering feelings, memory, and experience for the benefit of your psyche.

Because the delicate interplay between your conscious and subconscious mind is so crucial to your ability to function well, you will want to arrange and decorate your bedroom with utmost care, paying attention to feng shui principles as closely as possible. When you do, you will reap the maximum in benefits from this important room.

Bed Placement

If your bed is placed inauspiciously, you will feel off balance, whether awake or asleep, because the chi in the room will be seriously disturbed. Finding the best spot for your bed is the first task.
