I cannot thank you enough for the beautiful home you created for me. Nicholas Sunderland Interiors were really superb in understanding our style preferences, and using Feng Shui so subtly   to create a beautiful, calm home. Having done my London homes, can you please call me to arrange to refurbish my country house and overseas properties, I want to be happy wherever I am...  Lady C. UK member 1463

Feng Shui for Modern Living

The importance of Feng Shui in the home or office.

In 1998 I was fortunate enough to meet Stephen Skinner who at that time was in the early stages of developing the soon to be acclaimed, Feng Shui For Modern Living Magazine. It was to be the centrepiece of the Feng shui revolution in the West, and the first full colour magazine on the subject in the world.

I was more than interested in working with him on this project, and immediately promoted the Magazine at an Evening Standard Interior Design Exhibition at Olympia in August of that year. Without a single issue being printed, I was able to secure over 2000 advance subscriptions within 10 days. This was a clear indication that the West was ready for a link between the oriental art of Feng shui from the East, and Interior Design.

The concept of the magazine was to show a modern style of living incorporating all the nuances of  feng shui, without resorting to an oriental 'look'. The magazine gradually faded away, due I'm sad to say by internal issues rather than a disinterest in the subject. The interest  continued to grow, from where the magazine left off, and this website aims to fill those gaps left by the loss of a truly innovative magazine.

Feng Shui became important across the Uk and into Europe, the USA taking up the Classical approach recently, more in preference to the Black Hat system common at the time. Jami Linn in particular taking up the challenge successfully, and I was both honoured and delighted to train with her in Malaysia on one of the Lillian Too Master courses.

Modern Living today takes on a multitude of different approaches. We are no longer restricted by tradition and rules on how we decorate our homes, and with the advent of the computer age, the office is unrecognisable to even 10 years ago. Join us in the cyber feng shui club and learn how we can adapt our style to the principles of feng shui, utilising existing furniture and accessories, or guided by us on new and exciting styles.

We will over the weeks look at individual home directions, and individual Kua numbers for best locations of rooms and their individual desig. It can be a complicated process, and not often something we can follow to the correct degree, but there are always cures we put in place.
