Our Methodology
How every number is computed, and where we simplify.
Flying Star Chart
We implement classical Xuan Kong Flying Star (the standard xia gua method):
- Period: derived from the move-in year. Each period spans 20 years (2024–2043 = Period 9).
- Period chart: the period star enters the center and flies forward along the Lo Shu trail (center → NW → W → NE → S → N → SW → E → SE).
- Mountain & facing charts: the period star that reaches the sitting palace becomes the mountain star; the one at the facing palace becomes the facing star. Each enters the center and flies forward or backward according to the yin/yang of the relevant dragon (heavenly / earthly / human) of its home trigram.
- Five Yellow rule: when the mountain or facing star is 5, it has no palace of its own; the sitting or facing mountain's own yin/yang decides the flight direction.
Simplifications: we use the calendar year (not the exact Lichun solar term) for period boundaries, and the eight cardinal directions, each mapped to its heavenly-dragon mountain, rather than the full 24 mountains.
Solar Daylight
We compute the sun's position with the public-domain NOAA solar algorithm: solar declination, hour angle, sunrise/sunset azimuth, noon altitude, and day length for your city's coordinates. The daylight score blends noon altitude, facing alignment with the sun, and day length.
Wind & Ventilation
We use a simplified climate dataset of prevailing wind direction and average speed for major cities, adjusted upward for floor height (wind speed grows with altitude). The ventilation score blends wind comfort and how well your facing aligns with the prevailing breeze.
The Energy Score
The overall score is a weighted blend: Feng Shui 40% + Daylight 30% + Ventilation 30%. The feng shui component uses a simplified heuristic: prosperous mountain/facing stars add points; the 2-5 combination and the Five Yellow at the sitting or facing palace subtract. These weights and rules are transparent heuristics, not doctrine.
AI Interpretation
The narrative is generated by a large language model grounded in your computed chart. It describes the numbers above in plain language. It is a cultural interpretation, not a prediction.
