The Copper Gourd
When the flying star manuals need a cure for the worst pairing in the system, the 2-5 combination of sickness and misfortune, they reach for one object more than any other: the copper gourd. The gourd carries two readings at once. In Chinese folk tradition the gourd is a medicine symbol, the bottle the old physicians hung at the door, and in the five element system it is a mass of metal, and metal is what the doubled earth of 2-5 spends itself on.
Both readings arrive at the same instruction. The gourd belongs in the palace where the 2-5 or 5-7 pairing sits, most often near the bed of the person the chart concerns, or at the door that feeds the sick star.
Why copper, why a gourd
The element logic comes first. The 2 and the 5 are both earth stars. Choosing one
Material first: solid copper or brass, not painted plastic, because the element does the work. Size second: the classics do not prescribe a measurement, so pick one that sits where you plan to put it without being knocked over.
