The 2026 Flying Star Chart
Each February the nine stars change palaces. In 2026, the year of Bing Wu (the Yang Fire Horse), 1 White takes the center, the 5 Yellow parks in the south on top of the Grand Duke, and the north carries both the Year Breaker and the three killings. Here is the full chart, sector by sector, with the cures classical practice prescribes.
How the annual chart works
The annual star descends by one each year. 2024 ran on 3 Jade in the center, 2025 on 2 Black, and 2026 on 1 White. From that center star, the other eight stars fly out along the Lo Shu path to fill the eight sectors. The pattern is fixed: once you know the center star, you know the whole year. See our Flying Star basics guide for how the flight path works.
One date matters. The feng shui year turns at Li Chun (the start of spring), which falls on February 4, 2026. It does not turn on January 1, and it does not turn on the Lunar New Year (February 17 in 2026). Stars hold their positions until February 3, 2027.
The 2026 annual chart
| Sector | Annual star | Element | Classical reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Center | 1 White 一白 | Water | Victory star. Career progress, connections, recognition. The timely star of Period 9's near future. |
| Northwest | 2 Black 二黑 | Earth | Illness star. Health worries, slow recovery. Keep quiet, cure with metal. |
| West | 3 Jade 三碧 | Wood | Conflict star. Arguments, disputes, legal friction. Cure with fire. |
| Northeast | 4 Green 四綠 | Wood | Scholastic and romance star. Study, writing, relationships. Activates well. |
| South | 5 Yellow 五黃 | Earth | The most dangerous star, and it lands on Tai Sui. No work here this year. Cure with metal. |
| North | 6 White 六白 | Metal | A good star trapped in bad company: the Year Breaker and three killings share the north. Leave it undisturbed. |
| Southwest | 7 Red 七赤 | Metal | Robbery and loss star. Theft, deception, injury. Cure with water. |
| East | 8 White 八白 | Earth | The wealth star of the previous period. Still pays, slower than before. Activate. |
| Southeast | 9 Purple 九紫 | Fire | The prosperity star of Period 9. The best sector of 2026. Activate hard. |
A note on the 2 Black: a minority of Period 9 practitioners read it as partly timely now, because it sits close to the era's ruling fire. Most classical schools still treat it as the illness star. We take the conservative line in the cures below.
The three afflictions of 2026
Three directional taboos stack on top of the star chart this year.
- Tai Sui (the Grand Duke) sits in the south, at the Wu position (172.5° to 187.5°). The rule is not to face him with construction: no renovation, no drilling, no ground-breaking in the south sector this year.
- Sui Po (the Year Breaker) sits in the north, opposite Tai Sui. Same rule. The north gets no loud work either.
- The three killings occupy the north (the Hai, Zi, and Chou sector, roughly north-northwest through north-northeast). A Fire Horse year pushes the killings to the water side of the compass.
Now look at the stars again. The annual 5 Yellow, the worst star in the system, flies into the south, exactly where Tai Sui sits. South is the sector of 2026. Classical texts call this stacking "the five yellow on the Grand Duke," and the prescription is blunt: keep the south of your home quiet, dark work-free ground. No renovation there until February 2027.
The north holds a good star (6 White) under two afflictions (Sui Po and the three killings). The reading: the north can support career energy, but only if you leave it physically undisturbed. No construction, no heavy machinery, no felling of large trees.
Where to put activity in 2026
- Southeast, 9 Purple. The era's prosperity star. Keep this sector bright, used, and lively. Fire element feeds it: lamps, red or purple décor, candles. A main door or home office here is the best placement of the year.
- East, 8 White. The retired wealth star still earns. Earth and fire feed it: ceramics, warm lighting, yellow tones. Good sector for a desk or a till.
- Center, 1 White. Victory and connections. Metal and water feed it. In a house, the center is shared space; keep it open and clean rather than decorated.
- Northeast, 4 Green. Study and romance. A plant (wood) or a small water feature feeds it. Put the student's desk here.
Where to apply cures
Cures follow one rule: exhaust the bad star with the element it produces. Earth produces metal, so metal drains the earth stars (2 and 5). Wood produces fire, so fire drains 3 Jade. Metal produces water, so water drains 7 Red. The traditional objects:
- South (5 Yellow + Tai Sui): a copper gourd, six-emperor coins, or a metal wind chime. No fire element here, no red, nothing that moves or makes noise. Quiet metal only.
- Northwest (2 Black): a copper gourd or a metal ornament. Keep the sector calm.
- West (3 Jade): a red object or a lamp. Fire drains the quarreling wood.
- Southwest (7 Red): still water in a dark bowl, or blue and black décor. Water drains the robbery star.
- North (6 White under Sui Po): no cure and no activator. The star is fine; the afflictions want stillness. Leave the north as it is.
The monthly stars of 2026
A second chart flies every month. The monthly star enters the center at each solar term and also descends by one each month, starting from 8 White in the Tiger month (February). The column below tracks where the monthly 5 Yellow lands, because that sector wants extra quiet for those four weeks. Dates follow the solar terms and can shift by a day.
| Month (2026) | Monthly center star | Monthly 5 Yellow sits in | Note |
|---|---|---|---|
| Feb 4 – Mar 5 | 8 White | Southwest | Keep southwest quiet. |
| Mar 5 – Apr 5 | 7 Red | West | West carries annual 3 and monthly 5; leave it still. |
| Apr 5 – May 5 | 6 White | Southeast | Rest the southeast this month despite its good annual star. |
| May 5 – Jun 5 | 5 Yellow | Center | The 5 Yellow home month. Whole house quiet, no major work. |
| Jun 5 – Jul 7 | 4 Green | Northwest | Keep northwest quiet. |
| Jul 7 – Aug 7 | 3 Jade | West | West again; a calm month for that sector. |
| Aug 7 – Sep 7 | 2 Black | Northeast | Rest the northeast; illness stars stack. |
| Sep 7 – Oct 8 | 1 White | South | The monthly chart puts fresh energy on the annual 5 Yellow. Extra caution in the south. |
| Oct 8 – Nov 7 | 9 Purple | North | Monthly 9 meets annual 6 in the north, but Sui Po and the killings sit there. No construction. |
| Nov 7 – Dec 7 | 8 White | Southwest | Keep southwest quiet. |
| Dec 7 – Jan 5, 2027 | 7 Red | East | Rest the east wealth sector this month; no loud work. |
| Jan 5 – Feb 3, 2027 | 6 White | Southeast | Last quiet month for the southeast before the stars turn. |
Using this chart with the calculator
Our calculator computes your home's natal chart: the stars fixed by its facing direction and the period it was built or moved into. The annual chart overlays on top for one year. The workflow: run your home's chart, note which sectors hold your natal wealth and sickness stars, then check what 2026 stacks on those sectors. A natal wealth star in the southeast gets a strong year. A natal 2-5 pairing in the south gets the worst overlay of the decade, and the metal cure there stops being optional.
Questions
When does the 2026 feng shui year start? On February 4, 2026, at Li Chun (the start of spring). Not January 1, and not the Lunar New Year on February 17. Cures go up before February 4.
Where is the 5 Yellow in 2026? In the south, sharing the sector with Tai Sui. Keep the south quiet all year, hang a metal cure there, and do no renovation in that sector.
Which directions are lucky in 2026? The southeast first (9 Purple, the prosperity star of Period 9), then the east (8 White) and the center (1 White). The northeast serves study and relationships.
Do annual stars replace my home's chart? No. The natal chart is fixed by facing and period and runs for twenty years. Annual stars are guests that stay one year. Read both together.
